"We took ownership of a used canal boat in September 2009 as a 'sail away'. Since its purchase it has been lined, had bulkheads, toilet and clarifier fitted together with a kitchen unit and sink.
The bulkheads of the boat had been varnished with a variety of colours. We took the decision to remove the existing varnish and reline the bulkhead. We gave the boat a good sanding down to remove the lining and in so doing we discovered that the window frames were severely damaged allowing water to seep into the vessel, so we then went about replacing the window frames.
The windows were removed and the exterior repainted before refitting and resealing the window frames before progressing with the relining of the boat.
We used Teamac
Marine Undercoat * to line our boat. We chose a light grey colour and in a 5 litre tin, which just covered the area of the vessel.
We then applied Teamac
Marine Gloss paint ** in a cyprus green colour 5 litres (TEA196F) to the bulkhead and a buttermilk colour 2.5 litres (TEA106E) to the roof vents.
We managed to get a good, deep shine by adding Owatrol Oil to the last 2 top coats of Teamac application in varying
percentages.
Job done and we are delighted with the outcome!
Our next step is to find a calligrapher to paint the name, which is to be Slow n’ Easy in green on a buttermilk base.
